JOSEPH WENGER DIES FROM HEART AILMENT
JOSEPH WENGER, WHO FOR MANY YEARS HAD BEEN A RESIDENT OF FAIRBURY AND VICINITY, PASSED AWAY AT HIS HOME ON SOUTH FOURTH STREET TUESDAY MORNING AT 7:15 O’CLOCK, FOLLOWING A TEN-DAY ILLNESS WITH A HEART AILMENT. HE WAS AGED 83 YEARS, TEN MONTHS AND 23 DAYS.
MR. WENGER WAS BORN IN ST. LOUIS, FRANCE, JUNE 19, 1864, A SON OF JOHN AND MARY (STAUFFER) WENGER. HE GREW TO YOUNG MANHOOD IN HIS NATIVE COUNTRY, COMING TO THE UNITED STATES WHEN 20 YEARS OF AGE, AND HAD RESIDED IN THIS CITY AND VICINITY SINCE THAT TIME.
ON OCTOBER 3, 1888, IN PONTIAC, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO ELISA SUTTER. SHE SURVIVES TOGETHER WITH THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN: JOHN, OF CHATSWORTH; MRS. ELSIE WAIBEL, LOUIS WENGER AND HARRY WENGER, OF FORREST; RAYMOND AND ELMER WENGER, OF FAIRBURY. THERE ARE ALSO 13 GRANDCHILDREN AND THREE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. THREE DAUGHTERS AND A SON PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH. MR. WENGER WAS THE LAST OF HIS FAMILY.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD THIS AFTERNOON AT TWO O’CLOCK AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH. INTERMENT WILL BE IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. ELISA WENGER WERE HELD MONDAY AFTERNOON AT 1:30 O’CLOCK FROM THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND INTERMENT WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY. MRS. WENGER, WHO HAD BEEN ILL OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD, PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME HERE SATURDAY MORNING AT 11 O’CLOCK AT THE AGE OF 85 YEARS, SEVEN MONTHS AND SIX DAYS.
ELIZABETH SUTTER, DAUGHTER OF JACOB AND KATHERINE (KIRCHNER) SUTTER, WAS BORN IN TAZEWELL COUNTY, DECEMBER 25, 1868. HER MARRIAGE TO JOSEPH WENGER TOOK PLACE AT PONTIAC OCTOBER 3, 1888. THEY FARMED FOR MANY YEARS IN THIS VICINITY AND MOVED TO FAIRBURY IN 1931. MR. WENGER PASSED AWAY HERE MAY 11, 1948. ALSO PRECEDING HER IN DEATH WERE THREE DAUGHTERS AND A SON.
SURVIVING ARE: FIVE SONS, JOHN, OF CHATSWORTH; LOUIS, FORREST; RAYMOND AND ELMER, FAIRBURY, AND HARRY, OF DECATUR; A DAUGHTER, MRS. MRS. WESLEY YODER
MARY WENGER WAS BORN APRIL 24, 1890, NEAR WESTON, AND PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME SOUTH OF FORREST, MONDAY MORNING AT 3:30 O'CLOCK, AGED 26 YEARS, 11 MONTHS AND 8 DAYS. AFTER A FEW YEARS, SHE WITH HER PARENTS, MOVED NEAR FORREST, WHERE SHE SPENT THE REST OF HER LIFE.
ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO WESLEY YODER, THREE CHILDREN WERE BORN TO THEM, TWO OF WHOM DIED IN INFANCY. MRS. YODER PASSED AWAY FOLLOWING A SHORT ILLNESS OF MEASLES AND PNEUMONIA. BESIDES THE HUSBAND AND TWO-YEAR-OLD SON, SHE ALSO LEAVES TO MOURN HER LOSS, HER PARENTS, MR. AND MRS. JOSEPH WENGER, AND FIVE BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS, NAMELY: JOHN, ELMER, LOUIS, HARRY, RAYMOND, ELSIE AND ELMA. MRS. YODER WAS A KIND AND LOVING MOTHER, A GOOD NEIGHBOR AND LOVED BY ALL WHO KNEW HER.
THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD WEDNESDAY FROM THE GERMAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH IN THIS CITY AND WERE LARGELY ATTENDED.
2. MATHILDA "TILLY" WENGER 1891 - 1900
TILLY WENGER
TILLY WENGER, DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. JOS. WENGER, ONE MILE EAST OF FAIRBURY, WAS BORN TWO MILES NORTH OF WESTON IN LIVINGSTON COUNTY ILL., AUG. 31, 1891. DIED APRIL 12, 1900, AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS, AGED 8 YEARS, 7 MONTHS, 12 DAYS. SHE WAS A BRIGHT LOVING GIRL, LOVED BY ALL WHO KNEW HER. SHE WAS LAID TO REST IN THE FAIRBURY CEMETERY ON SATURDAY THE 14TH, WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF SYMPATHIZING FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS FOLLOWING IN THE PROCESSION. THE SERVICES WERE CONDUCTED BY S. BAECHLER.

HIS FUNERAL WAS AT 11 A. M. TUESDAY AT DUFFY-PILS MEMORIAL HOME, FAIRBURY. REV. RICHARD J. MICK OFFICIATED. BURIAL WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY, FAIRBURY.
PALLBEARERS WERE GLEN WAIBEL, ELDON WAIBEL, ROBERT WENGER, PERRY WENGER, LYLE BRUCKER AND JOE YODER.

MR. WENGER WAS BORN MAY 21, 1894, IN WESTON, A SON OF JOSEPH AND ELIZABETH SUTTER WENGER.
SURVIVING IS A BROTHER, ELMER, FAIRBURY.
THREE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH.
MR. WENGER WAS A MEMBER OF THE FAIRBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH AND THE PONTIAC MOOSE LODGE.
HE WAS A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF THE CHATSWORTH-FAIRBURY AREA. A FORMER TRUCKER, MR. WENGER HAD WORKED FOR HICKS AND SKELLY GAS CO. HE ALSO WAS A RETIRED FARMER.
4. ALMA WENGER 1898 - 1917
ALMA WENGER
MISS ALMA WENGER, DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. JOSEPH WENGER PASSED AWAY AT THE FAMILY HOME NEAR FORREST, LAST FRIDAY, APRIL 6, AGED 18 YEARS, 10 MONTHS AND 5 DAYS. SHE WAS BORN JUNE 1, 1898, TWO MILES EAST OF FAIRBURY AND SPENT HER ENTIRE LIFE IN THIS VICINITY. HE DEATH FOLLOWED AN ILLNESS OF MEASLES AND PNEUMONIA. A SISTER, MRS. WESLEY YODER, ALSO RESIDING NEAR FORREST, PRECEDED ALMA IN DEATH JUST FOUR DAYS, HER DEATH ALSO BEING CAUSED BY MEASLES FOLLOWED BY PNEUMONIA.
BESIDES THE PARENTS, WHO MOURN THE LOSS OF A LOVING AND DUTIFUL DAUGHTER, ONE SISTER, ELSIE, AND FIVE BROTHERS, JOHN, LOUIS, RAYMOND, ELMER AND HARRY, ALSO SURVIVE.
FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD SUNDAY FROM THE GERMAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH IN THIS CITY AND WERE LARGELY ATTENDED. THE REMAINS WERE LAID TO REST IN THE FAIRBURY CEMETERY.
THE BEREAVED FAMILY HAVE THE SYMPATHY OF THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY IN THEIR HOUR OF SORROW.

ELSIE A. WAIBEL, 80, OF 220 E. JOHN ST. DIED AT 4:50 A. M. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 12, 1980 AT CARLE FOUNDATION HOSPITAL, URBANA. SHE HAD BEEN ILL SEVERAL MONTHS.
A SON, TWO BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS PRECEDED HER IN DEATH.
SHE WAS A MEMBER OF APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.
SHE WAS BORN JUNE 3, 1900, IN FAIRBURY, A DAUGHTER OF JOSEPH AND ELIZA SUTTER WENGER. SHE MARRIED CARL WAIBEL SEPT. 5, 1922, IN PEORIA. HE SURVIVES.

MR. WENGER WAS BORN MARCH 31, 1902 IN FORREST, THE SON OF JOSEPH AND ELIZA SUTTER WENGER. HE MARRIED LUELLA MAE SKINNER DECEMBER 23, 1925 IN STRAWN. SHE PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH FEBRUARY 19, 1985.
HE IS SURVIVED BY TWO SONS, ROBERT, FAIRBURY AND PERRY, STRAWN; THREE BROTHERS, JOHN, ELMER AND HARRY, ALL OF FAIRBURY; 15 GRANDCHILDREN AND 18 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.
HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY ONE BROTHER, TWO SISTERS AND ONE SON.
MR. WENGER ATTENDED THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, FAIRBURY. HE LIVED HIS LIFETIME IN THE FORREST AREA AND WAS A RETIRED FARMER.

HE WAS A LIFETIME FAIRBURY AND FORREST AREA RESIDENT.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE LOYAL ORDER OF MOOSE, PONTIAC LODGE 1103.

MR. WENGER DIED AT 8:53 P. M. THURSDAY, JUNE 18, 1987 AT FAIRBURY HOSPITAL’S SKILLED CARE UNIT.
HE WAS BORN APRIL 8, 1910, IN FORREST, A SON OF JOSEPH AND ELIZA SUTTER WENGER. HE MARRIED ALDA C. HARTMAN ON SEPT. 20, 1962 IN DWIGHT. SHE SURVIVES.

MR. WENGER WAS A MEMBER OF TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, FAIRBURY; BLOOMINGTON ELKS LODGE; AND PONTIAC MOOSE LODGE.
HE LIVED IN THE FORREST, WING AND FAIRBURY AREA ALL HIS LIFE.
MR. WENGER WAS A RETIRED FARMER AND FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS MOWED MANY LAWNS IN THE FAIRBURY AREA.
THE DEATH OF THE WENGER’S FARM HAND
RUDOLPH KUNZ 1877 - 1903
DEATH BY SUNSTROKE
RUDOLPH KUNZ EXPIRED SUDDENLY FRIDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT 3:30 WHILE WORKING IN THE HAY FIELD. THE DECEASED WAS IN THE EMPLOY OF JOSEPH WENGER AND HE AND MR. WENGER WERE WORKING TOGETHER IN THE FIELD JUST WEST OF THE HOME A MILE AND A HALF EAST OF FAIRBURY. MR. WENGER WAS ON THE WAGON AND RUDOLPH WAS PITCHING TO HIM. AT THE LAST STOP THE WAGON MADE MR. WENGER NOTICED THAT KUNZ WAS ACTING A LITTLE QUEER AND ASKED HIM IF HE WAS SICK. RUDOLPH ANSWERED NO, AND TOLD HIM TO DRIVE ON. MR. WENGER STARTED UP THE TEAM AND LOOKING BACK SAW KUNZ TAKE A FEW STEPS, STAGGER AND FALL. HE JUMPED DOWN OFF THE WAGON AND RAN TO HIM BUT HE WAS APPARENTLY LIFELESS. MR. WENGER RAN FOR WATER AND ASSISTANCE AND SUMMONED DR. G. C. LEWIS FROM TOWN, BUT ALL EFFORTS WERE FRUITLESS AS DEATH MUST HAVE BEEN INSTANTANEOUS/ CORONER SLYDER CAME OVER FROM PONTIAC SATURDAY MORNING AND HELD AN INQUEST WITH THE FOLLOWING JURYMEN. DR. G. C. LEWIS, FOREMAN, DR. N. M. OTIS, DR. A. H. THATCHER, N. E. FULTON, HENDERSON FUGATE AND HENRY REMMERS. JOSEPH WENGER AND AMEL HUBER WERE THE WITNESSES EXAMINED AND THEIR TESTIMONY WAS SUBSTANTIALLY RELATED ABOVE. MR. WENGER STATED THAT EACH TIME THEY WENT TO THE HOUSE WITH A LOAD OF HAY THAT RUDOLPH WOULD PLUNGE HIS HEAD INTO A BUCKET OF COLD WATER. THE VERDICT OF THE JURY WAS DEATH BY SUNSTROKE. THE DECEASED WAS BORN IN KUNSUACHT, KANTON, ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, APRIL 16, 1877, AND CAME TO AMERICA ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. HE HAS WORKED FOR MR. WENGER SINCE HE CAME HERE AND WAS A HARD WORKER AND IT WAS SAID THAT HE COULD DO ALMOST TWO MEN’S WORK HE WAS SO STRONG. HE HAD NO RELATIVES IN THIS COUNTRY AND CORONER SLYDER TOOK CHARGE OF HIS FEW BELONGINGS AND WILL SEND WHAT IS LEFT AFTER PAYING THE FUNERAL EXPENSES TO HIS PEOPLE IN SWITZERLAND. THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD SATURDAY MORNING AT 10 O’CLOCK AT THE HOME OF MR. AND MRS. JOSEPH WENGER, REV. SIMON BAECHLOR OFFICIATING AND THE REMAINS WERE LAID TO REST IN THE FAIRBURY CEMETERY.
