JOHN RIEGER
JOHN RIEGER WAS BORN AT SCHILDACH, GERMANY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1851, AND PASSED AWAY DECEMBER 11, 1936, AT THE HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER, MRS. DAN ROTH, WITH WHOM HE MADE HIS HOME THE LAST EIGHT MONTHS.
HE WAS THE OLDEST SON OF JACOB AND BARBARA HEINSMAN RIEGER. HE SPENT HIS BOYHOOD DAYS IN GERMANY, COMING TO AMERICA IN THE YEAR 1874, AT THE AGE OF 23 YEARS, LANDING AT MORTON, WHERE HE RESIDED A FEW YEARS.
IN JANUARY, 1884, IN FAIRBURY, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO BARBARA STAIGER, THEY MAKING THEIR HOME SIX MILES SOUTHEAST OF FAIRBURY UNTIL NOVEMBER, 1902, WHEN THEY RETIRED FROM FARMING AND MOVED TO HIS LATE RESIDENCE AT 510 EAST ELM STREET, WHERE HE RESIDED UNTIL APRIL 13, 1936, WHEN ILL HEALTH OVERTOOK HIM AND HE MOVED TO THE HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER TO BE BETTER CARED FRO. HE WAS BEDFAST FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS.
MR. RIEGER LEAVES TO MOURN HIS LOSS HIS AGED WIFE, AND DAUGHTER, CARRIE ROTH AND HUSBAND AND SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN, ELMER, EARL, LESTER, LEONA, ELDON, BARARA AND MARVIN ROTH; ALSO TWO BROTHERS SURVIVE, ANDREW RIEGER, OF MORTON, AND GEORGE RIEGER, OF BURLINGTON, OKLA. HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY A BROTHER AND SISTER, JACOB RIEGER AND MRS. DORA BLASER, OF PINE BLUFF, ARK.
FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD SUNDAY AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH AT ONE O’CLOCK, BEING CONDUCTED BY REV. PETER BACH IN ENGLISH AND REV. FR. SCHMIDT, OF EUREKA, IN GERMAN.

BARBARA STAIGER RIEGER WAS BORN IN ST. GEORGAN, GERMANY, DECEMBER 24 TH 1848, AND PASSED AWAY AT THE HOME OF HER DAUGHTER, MRS. DANIEL ROTH, WITH WHOM SHE MADE HER HOME THE LAST NINE MONTHS, BEING AT THE TIME OF HER DEATH 88 YEARS AND 18 DAYS OF AGE.
SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF MATTHEW AND SALOME BUESSINGER STAIGER. SHE SPENT HER GIRLHOOD DAYS IN GERMANY, COMING TO AMERICA IN NOVEMBER, 1872, AT THE AGE OF 24 YEARS, LANDING AT FAIRBURY.
IN JANUARY, 1884, IN FAIRBURY, SHE WAS UNTIED IN MARRIAGE TO JOHN RIEGER, THEY MAKING THEIR HOME SIX MILES SOUTHEAST OF FAIRBURY UNTIL NOVEMBER, 1902, WHEN THEY RETIRED FROM FARMING AND MOVED TO THEIR LATE RESIDENCE AT 510 EAST ELM STREET, WHERE THEY RESIDED UNTIL APRIL 13, 1936, AT WHICH TIME SHE MOVED TO THE HOME OF THEIR DAUGHTER TO BE BETTER CARED FOR, HER ILLNESS LASTING ONLY SIX DAYS OF PNEUMONIA.
HER HUSBAND, JOHN RIEGER, PRECEDED HER IN DEATH JUST ONE MONTH, HE PASSING AWAY DECEMBER 11, 1936. SHE LEAVES TO MORN HER LOSS ONE DAUGHTER , MRS. CARRIE ROTH AND HUSBAND AND SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN, ELMER, EARL, LESTER, LEONA, ELDON, BARBARA AND MARVIN ROTH, AND ONE SISTER, MRS. ANNA HITZ, OF LACROSSE, IND. MRS. ROTH, A HOMEMAKER, WAS EDUCATED IN FAIRBURY SCHOOLS. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FORREST APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND HAD BEEN A MEMBER OF APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCHES FOR MORE THAN 70 YEARS.

ANDREW RIEGER FOUND DEAD IN NORTON GARAGE
ANDREW RIEGER, AGED 79, E RETIRED CARPENTER OF MORTON, AND FATHER OF MRS. GEORGE ARMBRUSTER, OF THIS CITY, WAS FOUND DEAD IN THE GARAGE AT THE REAR OF HIS HOME WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT TWO O’CLOCK. IT IS THOUGHT THAT DEATH RESULTED FROM A HEART ATTACK. THE INQUEST WAS TO HAVE BEEN HELD YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.
MR. RIEGER WAS BORN IN GERMANY JANUARY 27, 1859. HE MARRIED MISS MARY SCHMIBAALL. SHE DIED IN 1930. SURVIVING ARE TEN CHILDREN: MRS. LYDIA GRIMM, PEORIA; MRS. EMMA BERKLEY, GILBEY, N. D.; MRS. MARY ARMBRUSTER, CHEROKAA, OKLA.; MRS. ANNA ARMBRUSTER, FAIRBURY; MRS. IDA HEINTZMAN, PEORIA; WILLIAM, ST. AUGUSTINE; SAMUEL, KIOWA, IA.; HENRY, WASHBURN; ANDY AND EDWARD, MORTON. THERE IS A BROTHER, GEORGE, OF BURLINGTON, OKLA. THERE ARE THIRTY-FOUR GRANDCHILDREN AND FOUR GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

JACOB RIEGER, A WELL KNOWN RESIDENT OF THIS CITY, PASSED AWAY AT THE FAIRBURY HOSPITAL LAST EVENING AT 6:30 O’CLOCK FOLLOWING AN OPERATION LAST SATURDAY. HE WAS AGED 73 YEARS, 10 MONTHS AND 15 DAYS.
JACOB, SON OF JACOB AND BARBARA HEINSMAN RIEGER, WAS BORN AT SCHWARTZWALD, GERMANY, JULY 6, 1862. WHEN 18 YEARS OF AGE HE CAME TO AMERICA, AND IN AUGUST, 1883, WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO CHRISTINA STREITMATTER, WHO PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH SEPTEMBER 5, 1929.

MRS. JACOB RIEGER PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY AT HER HOME IN THIS CITY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT 3 O’CLOCK OF ACUTE INDIGESTION. SHE WAS TAKEN ILL SUDDENLY AND PASSED AWAY ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER. SHE WAS AGED 64 YEARS, 10 MONTHS AND 21 DAYS.

SHE GREW TO YOUNG WOMANHOOD THERE AND ON AUGUST 22, 1883, WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO JACOB RIEGER, WHO WITH THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN SURVIVES: FRED AND ANDREW, OF FORREST; ROSIE, OF FAIRBURY; MRS. JOHN KOEHL, OF CISSNA PARK; EMANUEL RIEGER, OF STRAWN; MRS. SARAH STREITMATTER, OF PRINCEVILLE, AND SALOME, AT HOME. THE FOLLOWING BROTHERS AND SISTERS ALSO SURVIVE: JACOB, ANDREW, PETER, LEONARD, FRED AND RUDOLPH STREITMATTER, AND MRS. GOTTLIEB HERMAN, OF PRINCEVILLE; MRS. GEORGE RIEGER AND MRS. MR. AND MRS. RIEGER MOVED TO A FARM NEAR STRAWN ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO, AND 15 YEARS AGO MOVED TO THIS CITY, WHERE THEY HAD SINCE RESIDED.
MRS. RIEGER WAS A KIND AND LOVING WIFE AND MOTHER, WHOSE LIFE WAS DEVOTED TO THOSE NEAR AND DEAR TO HER. SHE WAS A GOOD NEIGHBOR AND HER SUDDEN PASSING WAS A SHOCK TO HER MANY FRIENDS AS WELL AS TO THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY.
THE FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON FROM THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH. INTERMENT WILL BE IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

MRS. RIEGER DIED AT HER HOME SOUTHEAST OF FAIRBURY LAST FRIDAY NIGHT FOLLOWING A BRIEF ILLNESS, DEATH BEING DUE TO A BLOOD CLOT. SHE HAD BEEN IN HER USUAL HEALTH UNTIL JUST TWO WEEKS BEFORE HER DEATH, WHEN SHE FELL WHILE ABOUT HER WORK AND BECAME UNCONSCIOUS FOR A SHORT TIME. SHE APPARENTLY RECOVERED FROM THE ATTACK AND ON DAY OF HER DEATH HAD DONE THE USUAL HOUSEWORK AND HAD PREPARED THE EVENING MEAL WHEN SHE COMPLAINED OF A TERRIBLE PAIN IN HER HEAD. SHE SOON LOST CONSCIOUSNESS AND DIED THAT EVENING.
SALOME SOHN WAS BORN IN WOODFORD COUNTY, MARCH 16, 1885. WHEN SHE WAS FOUR YEARS OLD SHE CAME WITH HER PARENTS, MR. AND MRS. PHILLIP SOHN, SR., TO LIVE ON A FARM SOUTH OF FORREST. SHE WAS MARRIED TO FRED RIEGER DECEMBER 25, 1906, AND WENT TO HOUSEKEEPING AT REMINGTON, IND. FOUR YEARS LATER THEY REMOVED TO THE FARM WHERE THEY HAVE SINCE RESIDED.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND, FIVE CHILDREN, CLARA, PHILLIP, LEAH, HERMAN AND ALDINE, HER MOTHER, FIVE SISTERS AND THREE BROTHERS AS FOLLOWS: MATTILDA, ELIZA, MARTHA, LYDIA, PRISCILLA, PHILLIP, BENJAMIN AND JEPTHA.

THE BODY WAS BROUGHT TO THE J. W. BROWN FUNERAL HOME HERE, AND WAS TO BE RETURNED TO THE RESIDENCE THIS AFTERNOON.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 10 A.M. SUNDAY AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH IN FORREST. BURIAL WILL BE IN SOUTH SIDE CEMETERY.
MR. REIGER, A RETIRED FARMER, WAS BORN DEC. 15, 1890, AT PRINCEVILLE, A SON OF JACOB AND CHRISTINE RIEGER. HE WAS MARRIED TO MATILDA SOHN JAN. 2, 1913.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE; TWO SONS, HARVEY AND RICHARD, BOTH OF FORREST; NINE GRANDCHILDREN; TWO BROTHERS, FRED AND EMANUEL, BOTH OF FORREST; FOUR SISTERS, MRS. ROSE STEFFEN, MRS. LEAH KOEHL AND MISS SALOME RIEGER, ALL OF FAIRBURY, AND MRS. SARAH STREITMATTER, OF PRINCEVILLE.

HE DIED AT 6:05 P. M. FRIDAY, MAY 6, 1988 AT FAIRVIEW HAVEN.
HE WAS BORN DEC. 27, 1892, IN PRINCEVILLE, A SON OF JACOB CHRISTINA STREITMATTER RIEGER. HE MARRIED EMMA AELLIG ON JUNE 5, 1919, IN PONTIAC. SHE DIED SEPT. 18, 1949. HE MARRIED ELEANORA LEHMANN ON JUNE 24, 1951. HIS DIED JULY 13, 1974.
SURVIVING ARE A SON, LEONARD, FORREST; FIVE GRANDCHILDREN; AND 12 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

MR. RIEGER SERVED AS ROAD COMMISSIONER FOR FORREST TOWNSHIP AND FARMED IN THE FORREST AREA UNTIL 1946. HE WAS A VETERAN OF WORLD WAR I AND A MEMBER OF FORREST APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

SALOME S. ZIMMERMAN, 78, A LIFETIME RESIDENT OF FAIRBURY WHO LIVED AT FAIRVIEW HAVEN NURSING HOME SINCE APRIL, 1985, DIED AT 7:05 A. M. FEB. 18, 1986.
THE ZIMMERMAN FAMILY HOME WAS AT 310 E. LOCUST, FAIRBURY.
SERVICES WILL BE FRIDAY, FEB. 21 AT 10 A. M. AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF FAIRBURY. MINISTER OF THE CHURCH WILL OFFICIATE.

OTHER SURVIVORS INCLUDE FOUR STEPDAUGHTERS, THELMA SLAGEL, FAIRBURY; ELDORA STEINLE, OTTO, NC; ANNA LOU VAN ANTWERP, FAIRBURY; AND FLORENCE KOCH, TREMONT; AND ONE STEPSON, DONALD ZIMMERMAN, FAIRBURY.
ALSO SURVIVING ARE ONE BROTHER, EMMANUEL RIEGER, OF FAIRBURY, 14 STEP GRANDCHILDREN AND 12 STEP GREATCHILDREN.
SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS, THREE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS.
MRS. ZIMMERMAN WAS A MEMBER OF THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF FAIRBURY. SHE WAS MANAGER OF WALTON’S MEN’S WEAR FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS.
