CHRISTIAN METZ

CHRISTIAN METZ, A RESIDENT OF PLEASANT RIDGE TOWNSHIP FOR THE PAST 17 YEAR, DIED AT HIS HOME THERE MONDAY MORNING AT 8:30 O’CLOCK. MR. METZ WHO WAS AGED 82 YEARS, 8 MONTHS AND 27 DAYS, HAD BEEN ILL SINCE THE SIXTH DAY OF MAY.

MR. METZ WAS BORN AT FRANSFELD, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY, ON SEPTEMBER 23, 1855, THE SON OF JACOB AND ELIZABETH SCHONEAK METZ. HE GREW TO MANHOOD THERE AND WAS MARRIED AT FRANSFELD. THE FAMILY LATER CAME TO AMERICA.

HE WAS A FARMER AND FOLLOWED THAT OCCUPATION UNTIL TAKEN ILL.

SURVIVING ARE THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN: JOSEPH AND MARTIN METZ, IN JUGOSLAVIA; MRS. MARTHA SAUER, CHRISTIAN METZ, JR., OF RANKIN; LUDWIG METZ, FORREST; FREDERICK METZ, OF SUSANVILLE, CALIF. HIS WIFE AND A DAUGHTER PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD WEDNESDAY MORNING AT 11 O’CLOCK AT THE NORTH CHURCH IN PLEASANT RIDGE TOWNSHIP, THE REV. PETER BACH OFFICIATING.

STRAWN, MARCH 27 - LUDWIG METZ, 66 PASSED AWAY AT 10:25 A. M. THURSDAY AT FAIRBURY HOSPITAL WHERE HE HAD BEEN A PATIENT FOR FIVE DAYS.

HE WAS TAKEN TO THE CULKIN FUNERAL HOME WHERE SERVICES WERE HELD AT 2:00 P. M. SATURDAY AND AT 2:30 P. M. AT THE FORREST APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

BURIAL WAS AT APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CEMETERY OF PLEASANT RIDGE TOWNSHIP.

BORN APRIL 10, 1891 AT FRANZ JOSEPH VELDT BOSNIEN, SON OF CHRISTIAN AND ELIZABETH METZ.

HE MARRIED PERSEDA HONEGGER SEPT. 6, 1927 AT PONTIAC.

SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, THREE DAUGHTER, MRS. ELIZABETH JOHNSON OF KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS, MRS. ESTHERGERBER OF ROCKVILLE, CONNECTICUT, MISS RUTH AT HOME.

FIVE SONS CHRISTIAN, BENJAMIN, DAVID AND ARTHUR AT HOME. WILLIAM OF HOBART, INDIANA, ONE BROTHER FRED METZ, SR. OF SUSANVILLE, CALIFORNIA. TEN GRANDCHILDREN. FOUR BROTHER AND TWO SISTERS PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FORREST APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

PRICILLA (SCHMIDT) HONEGGER / METZ 1877 - 1926

MOTHER AND SON KILLED IN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT

TRAGEDY TOOK PLACE MONDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT 2 O’CLOCK ON HARD ROAD 30 RODS WEST OF TOWN.

AN ACCIDENT WHICH COST THE LIFE OF CHRISTIAN W. METZ, AGED 8, SON OF MR. AND MRS. LUDWIG H. METZ, OF PLEASANT RIDGE TOWNSHIP, AND ON THE FOLLOWING DAY THAT OF HIS MOTHER, OCCURRED MONDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT 2 O’CLOCK ON THE HARD ROAD ABOUT 30 RODS WEST OF THE CITY LIMITS, NEAR THE WM. NIMMO FARM. THE LAD WAS ACCOMPANYING HIS PARENTS, MR. AND MRS. LUDWIG METZ, WHO WERE TRANSPORTING A COW IN AN OLDSMOBILE MOTOR TRUCK ON WHICH WAS MOUNTED A LIVESTOCK RACK, FROM THEIR FARM IN PLEASANT RIDGE TOWNSHIP, OVER ROUTE 8 TO EUREKA.

MRS. LUDWIG H. METZ

PRISCILLA SCHMDT, DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. J. W. SCHMIDT, BORN IN PEORIA, JULY 9, 1877, PASSED AWAY AT THE FAIRBURY HOSPITAL AT 11:30 O’CLOCK ON TUESDAY MORNING, HER DEATH BEING DUE TO SHOCK.

IN 1901 SHE WAS MARRIED TO EMIL HONEGGER, WHO WAS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO. IN OCTOBER, 1915, SHE WAS MARRIED TO LUDWIG H. METZ. THE THIS UNION TWO CHILDREN WERRE BORN, EMANUEL, WHO DIED AT THE AGE OF FIVE, AND CHRISTIAN. SURVIVING HER, BESIDES HER HUSBAND , ARE TWO SONS, EMIL AND WILLIAM HONEGGER; TWO DAUGHTERS, PERSIDA AND LYDIA HONEGGER; HER PARENTS, WHO LIVE AT EUREKA; TWO SISTERS, PERSIDA, AT HOME, MRS.LYDIA BITTNER, EUREKA; ONE BROTHER, EMANUEL SCHMIDT.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MOTHER AND SON WERE HELD AT THE NORTH CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND INTERMENT MADE IN THE CEMETERY THERE.

CHRISTIAN WILLIAM METZ

CHRISTIAN WILLIAM METZ, SON OF MR. AND MRS. LUDWIG H. METZ, WAS BORN ON HIS PARENTS FARM IN PLEASANT RIDGE TOWNSHIP, IN OCTOBER, 1917, AND HAD SPENT HIS ENTIRE LIFE THERE, ATTENDING THE SCHOOLS OF THAT VICINITY DURING HIS BRIEF LIFE. HE WAS AGED 8 YEARS AND 10 MONTHS AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH.

HE WAS A BRIGHT AND WILLING LAD AND WAS THE ONLY CHILDREN OF MR. AND MRS. METZ. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS PARENTS, TWO STEP-BROTHERS, EMIL AND WILLIAM HONEGGER, AND TWO STEP-SISTERS, PERSIDA AND LYDIA HONEGGER, ALL AT HOME. ONE BROTHER, EMANUEL, PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH IN DECEMBER, 1924.

PERIDA V. METZ, 84, DIED AT 1:10 A. M. APRIL 10, 1987 AT FAIRVIEW HAZEN, WHERE SHE HAD RESIDED THE PAST EIGHT YEARS. SHE FORMERLY LIVED IN FORREST.

HER FUNERAL WAS AT 1 P. M. SUNDAY AT THE FORREST APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, CHURCH MINISTERS OFFICIATED. BURIAL WAS IN NORTH APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CEMETERY.

CULKIN-DIGGLE FUNERAL HOME, FORREST WAS IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.

SHE WAS BORN FEB. 4, 1903, IN FORREST TOWNSHIP, A DAUGHTER OF EMIL AND PRISCILLA SCHMIDT HONEGGER. SHE MARRIED LUDWIG H. METZ ON SEPT. 6, 1927, IN PONTIAC. HE DIED MARCH 20, 1958.

SURVIVORS INCLUDE FIVE SONS, CHRISTIAN L., STRAWN; BENJAMIN L., FRANCESVILLE, IND.; WILLIAM F., HOUSTON, TEX.; DAVID C., MORTON; AND ARTHUR J., GERVAIS, ORE.; THREE DAUGHTERS, ELIZABETH P. JOHNSON, CLIFTON; ESTHER L. GERBER, FORREST; AND RUTH H. METZ, FORREST; ONE BROTHER, JOHN J. WALTERS, TOLEDO, OHIO; 21 GRANDCHILDREN; AND 29 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY ONE SON, ONE BROTHER AND ONE SISTER.

SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FORREST APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH. SHE AND HER HUSBAND FARMED IN THE FORREST AREA UNTIL RETIRING IN 1956.
