FOLLOWING AN ILLNESS OF ABOUT FOUR YEARS, SUFFERING WITH HEART TROUBLE, JOSEPH LEMAN, SR., ONE OF OUR MOST PROMINENT AND HIGHLY RESPECTED CITIZENS, PASSED TO HIS REWARD AT ABOUT 2:30 YESTERDAY MORNING, ALL OF HIS CHILDREN, BUT MRS. FRED GUDEMAN OF ROANOKE, WHO IS ILL, BEING AT HIS BEDSIDE DURING THE DEATH HOUR. THE FUNERAL WILL BE HELD AT THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH NORTHEAST OF EUREKA AT ONE P. M. FRIDAY, WITH BURIAL IN THE BEAUTIFUL CHURCH CEMETERY.

JOSEPH LEMAN, SR., WAS BORN JUNE 3, 1835, AT RHODES, ELSASS LOTHRINGEN, FRANCE, A SON OF JOSEPH AND KATHERINE LEMAN. HE CAME TO AMERICA WITH HIS MOTHER ON ESTER SUNDAY, APRIL 16, 1854. HE LIVED AT SPRING BAY FIRST, LATER AT CROW CREEK. FROM THERE HE MOVED TO A FARM 5 ˝ MILES NORTHWEST OF EUREKA WHERE HE LIVED TWO MONTHS LESS THAN 50 YEARS. HE RETIRED AND MOVED TO EUREKA IN JANUARY, 1915. MR. LEMAN WAS MARRIED TO CATHERINE SMITH, FEB. 2, 1859. TO THIS UNION THIRTEEN CHILDREN WERE BORN: ONE DAUGHTER, MRS. SAMUEL SCHUMACHER, DIED FEB. 26, 1916. THE REST ARE MRS. JOE PELSY, SR., MRS. ALBERT GUDEMAN, MRS. ERNEST ANLIKER, OF FRANCESVILLE, IND.; WILL, OF BREMEN; BEN, OF FORREST, AND THE REST LIVING HERE - MRS. FRED GUDEMAN, CHRIST, JOHN, JOE; SAM, DAVID, HENRY AND ALPHEUS, PERCIDA AND ELIZA, AND ONE STEP-SON, WILL REHG.

MRS.LEMAN DIED MAY 10, 1885. HE WAS MARRIED AGAIN SEPT. 26, 1886, TO MRS. ELIZABETH REHG. THREE CHILDREN WERE BORN TO THEM, PERCIDA, ELIZA AND ALPHEUS. HE HAS ONE HALF-SISTER, MRS. J. E. CLAUDIN, OF ROANOKE.

THERE ARE 119 GRANDCHILDREN AND 73 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

FUNERAL OF JOS. LEMAN, SR., LARGELY ATTENDED

THE FUNERAL SERVICES FOR JOS. LEMAN, SR., WHOSE DEATH WAS MENTIONED LAST WEEK, WERE HELD LAST FRIDAY AT THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH NORTHEAST OF EUREKA AT ONE P. M. AND WERE ONE OF THE LARGEST ATTENDED SERVICES EVER HELD HERE. THE SERVICES WERE IN CHARGE OF PHILIP GUTWEIN, SR., WHO SPOKE IN GERMAN, ASSISTED BY PHILIP GUTWEIN, JR., WHO SPOKE IN ENGLISH. BOTH WERE FROM FRANCISVILLE, IND. THE PALLBEARERS WERE SIX GRANDSONS OF THE DECEASED - ELI, FRED, J. F., ANDREW, JOSEPH AND ERNEST LEMAN.

DEATH AGAIN VISITED OUR COMMUNITY SUNDAY AFTERNOON, OCTOBER 9TH, WHEN AT 3:40, MRS. ELIZABETH LEMAN PASSED TO HER ETERNAL REST, AFTER A MONTH’S ILLNESS OF A COMPLICATION OF DISEASES, BUT ONLY FOR THE PAST TEN DAYS WAS THIS ILLNESS CONSIDERED SERIOUS.

ELIZABETH HEER, A DAUGHTER AND OLDEST OF SIX CHILDREN OF MATTHAW AND ANNA HEER, WAS BORN AUGUST 10, 1852, AT DOYLESBURG, PENN., AND WHEN 14 TEARS OLD SHE CAME TO WASHINGTON, ILL., AND LIVED THERE UNTIL SHE WAS MARRIED TI FRED REHG IN 1872, TO WHICH UNION ONE SON, WM. REHG OF EUREKA, WAS BORN. HER HUSBAND DIED IN 1875. SHE WAS AGAIN MARRIED TO JOSEPH LEMAN, SR., SEPTEMBER 26, 1886, AND TO THIS UNION THREE CHILDREN WERE BORN, PERCIDA, ELIZA AND ALPHEUS. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER FOUR CHILDREN, AND STEP CHILDREN AS FOLLOWS: MRS. JOE PELSY, CHRIST LEMAN, MRS. ALBERT GUDEMAN, MRS. FRED GUDEMAN, JOHN, SAM, JOE, MRS. ERNEST ANLIKER, BEN, HENRY, DAVID AND WILLIAM LEMAN. SHE ALSO LEAVES TWO SISTERS, MRS. JOHN ROCH AND MRS. KATE PHILLIPI, BOTH OF WASHINGTON, AND ONE BROTHER; 122 GRANDCHILDREN AND TWENTY GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

MR. AND MRS. LEMAN MOVED TO EUREKA FROM THE FARM THE FARM ABOUT THIRTEEN YEARS AGO AND SINCE LIVING IN TOWN MRS. LEMAN HAS MADE FRIENDS WITH ALL WITH WHOM SHE HAS COME IN CONTACT. MR. LEMAN PASSED AWAY JUST A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO. MRS. LEMAN HAS FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH NEAR ROANOKE AND AFTER A SHORT FUNERAL SERVICES AT THE HOME ON CALLENDER STREET YESTERDAY MORNING THE BODY WAS TAKEN TO THE CHURCH AND LAID TO REST IN THE CEMETERY ADJOINING THE CHURCH.

EMMA LEMAN ANLIKER PASSED AWAY AT HER FARM HOME NORTHWEST OF TOWN AT 10 O’CLOCK FRIDAY EVENING, APRIL 22, 1932, AFTER A YEAR OF PATIENT SUFFERING FROM THAT DREAD MALADY, CANCER.

SHE WAS 56 YEARS OF AGE, HAVING BEEN BORN NEAR METAMORA, WOODFORD COUNTY, ILLINOIS, ON APRIL 17, 1876, THE DAUGHTER OF JOSEPH AND KATHERINE LEMAN.

ON NOVEMBER 14, 1897, SHE WAS MARRIED TO ERNST ANLIKER, AT ROANOKE, ILLINOIS, AND MOVED TO THIS VICINITY TO THE FARM THAT FOR A QUARTER CENTURY HAD BEEN HER HOME FROM LIVINGSTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS, IN JANUARY 1907.

BESIDES THE HUSBAND, ERNST ANLIKER, SHE LEAVES SURVIVING HER SEVEN SONS, JOSEPH W., JOHN E., BENJAMIN C., EMIL H., ELI H. AND ELMER C., OF THIS VICINITY, AND SAMUEL P. ANLIKER, OF GRIDLEY, KANSAS; FIVE DAUGHTERS, ELIZABETH F., KATHRYN A., DOROTHY M., MABEL K. AND BENA E., AT HOME; NINE BROTHERS - CHRIS, JOHN, SAMUEL, JOSEPH, HENRY, DAVIS AND ALPHEUS LEMAN, ALL OF ROANOKE, ILLINOIS; BENJAMIN LEMAN, OF FORREST, ILLINOIS, AND WILLIAM LEMAN, OF BREMEN, INDIANA, AND FOUR SISTERS - MRS. THE FUNERAL WAS CONDUCTED WAS CONDUCTED AT THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH, TUESDAY MORNING, APRIL 26, 1932, AT 9 O’CLOCK, BY REV. DANIEL STOLLER, OF PAULDING, OHIO, AND REV. SAMUEL RAPP, OF MORTON, ILLINOIS, AFTER WHICH INTERMENT WAS MADE AT FRANCESVILLE CEMETERY.

FOR THE PAST SIX WEEKS MRS. ANLIKER HAD BEEN IN A CRITICAL CONDITION, AND WHILE HER DEATH WAS NOT UNEXPECTED, YET IT BRINGS GREAT SORROW TO THE FAMILY, HER CHURCH AND THE COMMUNITY, WHERE SHE WAS LOVED FOR HER UNSELFISH KINDNESS. SHE WAS ONE OF THOSE MOTHERLY WOMEN WHO EXTEND THEIR LOVE TO ALL , HER COMPETENT HAND IN TIME OF SICKNESS AND DISTRESS, AND SHE HAS HELPED TO PROVIDE COMFORT AND CARE FOR THE SICK IN MANY HOMES OF THIS VICINITY. MANY ARE THE FRIENDS WHO RISE UP AND CALL HER BLESSED.

THE FUNERAL WAS THE LARGEST EVER HELD AT THE CHURCH OF WHICH SHE WAS A MEMBER, RELATIVES AND FRIENDS, COMING FROM ILLINOIS, KANSAS, IOWA AND OHIO TO PAY THEIR TRIBUTE TO A WONDERFUL WOMAN. ALL OF HER CHILDREN AND HER BROTHERS AND SISTERS WERE AMONG THOSE WHO STOOD AT HER BIER TO SHAD A LAST TEAR BECAUSE OF HER TAKING. THE NUMBER OF FRIENDS AND MORE DISTANT RELATIVES WHO ATTENDED WAS SO VAST THAT IT IS UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR US TO GET THEIR NAMES, BUT AMONG THOSE WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET WERE, IN ADDITION TO THE CHILDREN, BROTHERS AND SISTERS NAMED ABOVE, MR. AND MRS. ANDREW STEFFEN AND FAMILY, OF CROPSEY, ILLINOIS, MR. AND MRS. CHARLES KUEBLER AND FAMILY, OF CISSNA PARK, ILLINOIS; MR. AND MRS. GOTLIEB TYLER, OF FAIRBURY, ILLINOIS, MR. AND MRS. BEN LEMAN, PROMINENT FORREST MAN, DIES

BEN LEMAN, OF FORREST, WHO FOR MANY YEARS RESIDED SOUTH OF THAT VILLAGE, PASSED AWAY AT HIS HOME IN FORREST, WEDNESDAY MORNING AT 3:30 O’CLOCK. MR. LEMAN, WHO HAD BEEN ILL FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS WAS AGED 70 YEARS, TEN MONTHS AND 17 DAYS.

MR. LEMAN WAS A SON OF JOSEPH AND KATHRYN (SMITH) LEMAN AND WAS BORN AT METAMORA, JANUARY 21, 1878. HE RESIDED IN THAT VICINITY DURING HIS YOUNGER LIFE AND THERE ON JANUARY 8, 1901, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO CAROLINE ANLIKER. THEY MADE THEIR HOME AT METAMORA FOR THREE YEARS AND THEN MOVED TO A FARM SOUTH OF FORREST, WHERE THEY LIVED UNTIL OCTOBER 13, 1948, WHEN THEY MOVED INTO THEIR NEW HOME IN FORREST.

SURVIVING ARE THE WIFE AND THE FOLLOWING NINE CHILDREN: HARVEY AND MRS. KATHRYN SCHNEIDER, BOTH OF STRAWN; ELI AND CHRIS, BOTH OF FAIRBURY; MRS. LAURA KACHELMUSS, ELGIN; AND SIDNEY, RICHARD AND MISS BENA LEMAN, ALL OF FORREST. ALSO SURVIVING ARE 18 GRANDCHILDREN AND THE FOLLOWING BROTHERS AND SISTERS: WILL, OF BREMEN, IND.; HENRY AND MRS. KATIE RELSY, BOTH OF FRANCESVILLE, IND.; DAVE, GOODFIELD, JOSEPH, ROANOKE, ALF, OF METAMORA, AND JOHN AND MISS PERCIDA AND MISS ELIZA LEMAN, ALL OF EUREKA. TWO SONS, SILAS AND ERNEST, ONE DAUGHTER, LEONA, TWO BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTER PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD FROM THE SOUTH APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF WHICH HE WAS A MEMBER, TOMORROW MORNING AT 10:30 O’CLOCK. INTERMENT WILL BE IN THE CHURCH CEMETERY.

MRS. CAROLINE LEMAN, 88, DIED SATURDAY, SEPT. 7 AT 1 P. M. AT FAIRBURY HOSPITAL. FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 AT 10 A. M. FROM THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH. BURIAL WAS MADE IN THE SOUTH APOSTOLIC CEMETERY.

MRS. LEMAN WAS BORN DECEMBER 18, 1879 AT WEST BEND, IOWA, A DAUGHTER OF JOHN AND ELIZABETH R. ANLIKER. SHE MARRIED BEN LEMAN, JAN. 8, 1901 AT EMMETSBURG, IOWA. HE DIED IN 1948.

SHE IS SURVIVED BY FOUR DAUGHTERS: MRS. KATHRYN SCHNEIDER, STRAWN; MRS. BENA LEHMAN AND MRS. LAURA KACHELMUSS, BOTH OF FORREST; AND MRS. MARIE STOLLER, GRIDLEY; FIVE SONS, ELI, MORTON; SIDNEY, FORREST; HARVEY, STRAWN; AND RICHARD, OF REMINGTON, IND.; A SISTER, MRS. LYDIA ANLIKER, TREMONT; 33 GRANDCHILDREN; 41 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY TWO SONS, ONE DAUGHTER, SIX BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FORREST APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

ERNEST LEMAN, OF ELGIN, A FORMER RESIDENT OF THIS VICINITY, AND A SON OF MR. AND MRS. BEN LEMAN, RESIDING SIX AND A HALF MILES SOUTHEAST OF FAIRBURY, PASSED AWAY AT ELGIN SUNDAY FOLLOWING A WEEK’S ILLNESS WITH PNEUMONIA. HE WAS AGED 32 YEARS, 4 MONTHS AND 22 DAYS.

MR. LEMAN WAS BORN IN WOODFROD COUNTY, AUGUST 14, 1902, AND WHEN A CHILD TWO YEARS OF AGE MOVED WITH HIS PARENTS TO THIS VICINITY, WHERE HE GREW TO YOUNG MANHOOD. LATER HE WENT TO ELGIN TO RESIDE, WHERE ON MAY 14, 1929, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MISS ELIZABETH KACHELMUS, OF THAT CITY.

THREE SONS, ROBERT, LOUIS AND LEROY, WERE BORN TO THIS UNION, WHO WITH THE WIDOW SURVIVE. THERE ALSO SURVIVE BESIDES THE PARENTS FIVE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS.

THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD IN ELGIN ON TUESDAY FROM THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH. INTERMENT WAS AT ELGIN.

MANY FROM THIS CITY AND VICINITY ATTENDED THE FUNERAL INCLUDING THE PARENTS OF THE DECEASED AND THEIR FAMILY AND A BROTHER, ELI LEMAN, AND FAMILY, OF THIS CITY.

MINISTERS OF THE CHURCH WILL OFFICIATE. BURIAL WILL BE IN SOUTH APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CEMETERY, RURAL FAIRBURY. VISITATION WILL BE FROM 2 TO 4 AND 6 TO 8 P. M. MRS. SCHNEIDER WAS BORN DEC. 2, 1903, IN ROANOKE, THE DAUGHTER OF BENJAMIN AND CAROLINE ANLIKER LEMAN. SHE MARRIED OSCAR C. SCHNEIDER ON SEPT. 20, 1936, IN RURAL FAIRBURY. HE DIED MARCH 16, 1981.

SURVIVORS INCLUDE ONE DAUGHTER, MARY K. METZGER, VERNON HILLS; TWO SONS, DUANE SCHNEIDER, FAIRBURY AND KENNETH SCHNEIDER, REMINGTON, IND.; ONE SISTER, MARIE STOLLER, GRIDLEY; TWO BROTHERS, ELI LEMAN AND SIDNEY LEMAN, BOTH OF FAIRBURY; 12 GRANDCHILDREN; AND 25 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

ONE SON, RUSSELL SCHNEIDER; FIVE BROTHERS; THREE SISTERS; AND ONE GRANDSON PRECEDED HER IN DEATH.

MRS. SCHNEIDER, A HOMEMAKER, HAD FARMED WITH HER HUSBAND IN THE STRAWN AREA FOR MANY YEARS AND HAD ENJOYED THE HOBBY OF QUILTING.

MR. LEMAN WAS BORN FEB. 13, 1905, IN FORREST, A SON OF BENJAMIN AND CAROLINE ANLIKER LEMAN. HE MARRIED BERTHA LOUISE SCHILTZ ON SEPT. 6, 1931, IN ELGIN. SHE SURVIVES.

MR. LEMAN MANAGED LOCAL GRAIN ELEVATORS IN THE FAIRBURY AREA 1933 - 1962, THEN BECAME THE FIRST ADMINISTRATOR OF THE FAIRVIEW HAVEN NURSING HOME, FAIRBURY, UNTIL HE RETIRED TO MORTON IN 1965. HE RETURNED TO FAIRBURY IN 1999 FROM MORTON.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, FORREST. HE ENJOYED VOLUNTEERING AT RESTMOR NURSING HOME, AND HIS FAVORITE PASTIME WAS COUNTED CROSS-STITCHING

HE WAS BORN IN FORREST ON JAN. 18, 1908, A SON OF BEN AND CAROLINE ANLIKER LEMAN. HE MARRIED VIOLA MARIE SCHNEIDER ON JAN. 19, 1936 IN PEORIA. SHE SURVIVES.

LEONA CAROLINE LEMAN, DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. BEN LEMAN, PASSED AWAY AT THE FAMILY HOME SIX MILES SOUTHEAST OF THIS CITY, SHORTLY AFTER NOON LAST SATURDAY, AGED 12 YEARS, 10 MONTHS AND 4 DAYS. SHE HAD BEEN ILL FOR SOME TIME WITH A COMPLICATION OF DISEASES, BUT IT WAS PNEUMONIA THAT CAUSED HER DEATH.

LEONA CAROLINE WAS BORN AT THE FAMILY HOME ON FEBRUARY 19, 1921, AND ATTENDED THE SCHOOLS OF THAT VICINITY. BESIDES THE PARENTS THERE SURVIVE THE FOLLOWING BROTHERS AND SISTERS: BENA, LAURA, ERNEST, ELIAS AND KATHRYN, OF ELGIN; CHRISTIAN, OF NORMAL, AND MARIE, SIDNEY, HARVEY AND RICHARD, AT HOME.
