FRED KOEHL
THE REMAINS OF FRED KOEHL, OF LAMAR, MO., WHO RESIDED ON A FARM SOUTH OF THIS CITY FOR THIRTEEN YEARS, WERE BROUGHT TO FAIRBURY WEDNESDAY FOR INTERMENT. THE FUNERAL PARTY WAS EXPECTED AT 9 A. M., WEDNESDAY, BUT MISSED THE TRAIN AT KANSAS CITY AND CAME BY THE WAY OF THE SANTA FE TO STREATOR, WHERE THEY EXPECTED TO CATCH THE WABASH TRAIN, ARRIVING HERE AT 11:25, BUT THE SANTA FE WAS LATE AND THEY MISSED THAT TRAIN. A SPECIAL TRAIN WAS RUN FROM FORREST TO STREATOR AND THE FUNERAL PARTY ARRIVED HERE AT 2:45 P. M. THE REMAINS WERE CONVEYED TO THE GERMAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH OF WHICH THE DECEASED WAS AN HONORED MEMBER AND THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD THERE, REV. MIKE MANGOLD OF ROANOKE, OFFICIATING.
FRED KOEHL WAS BORN IN ALSACE, LORRAINE, GERMANY. JULY 28, 1852. HE CAME TO AMERICA IN 1873, AND FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS MADE HIS HOME IN WOODFORD AND TAZEWELL COUNTIES. HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MISS MARY STEFFEN AT ROANOKE, AUG. 1878, AND IN 1888 THEY CAME TO FAIRBURY, TAKING UP THEIR RESIDENCE ON THE FARM NOW OWNED BY J. B. SCHERTZ. TEN CHILDREN WERE BORN TO THIS UNION, ONE DYING IN INFANCY. THE REMAINING CHILDREN ARE AS FOLLOWS: MRS. DAVID ROTH OF LAMAR, MO., FRED AND CHRIS OF LESTER, IA., JOHN OF FAIRBURY, ANDREW, HENRY, MARY AND EMMA OF LAMAR, MO. THESE WITH THE BEREAVED WIFE AND ONE BROTHER IN FAIRBURY, TOGETHER WITH MANY FRIENDS, MOURN HIS DEATH.
IN THE SPRING OF 1901 THE DECEASED WITH HIS FAMILY MOVED TO LAMAR, MO. WHERE HE RESIDED UNTIL HIS DEATH. THE DECEASED WAS A MAN OF STERLING CHRISTIAN CHARACTER AND THE ESTEEM IN WHICH HE WAS HELD WAS TESTIFIED AT THE FUNERAL SERVICES WHICH WERE ATTENDED BY HUNDREDS OF FRIENDS AND FORMER NEIGHBORS. OVER ONE HUNDRED FRIENDS CAME FROM A DISTANCE, GRIDLEY, ROANOKE, MORTON, PEORIA PEOPLE FILLING A SPECIAL CAR ON THE EAST BOUND TRAIN WHILE A LARGE NUMBER CAME FROM CISSNA PARK, REMINGTON, AND WOLCOTT, IND. THE BEREAVED FAMILY HAVE THE SYMPATHY OF MANY FRIENDS IN THIS LOCALITY.
MRS. MARY KOEHL
MRS. MARY KOEHL, WIDOW OF THE LATE FREDERICK, PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME ON EAST ELM STREET LAST SATURDAY MORNING ABOUT 8:30 O’CLOCK FOLLOWING A SHORT ILLNESS. SHE WAS AGED 77 YEARS, 7 MONTHS AND 23 DAYS.
MARY STEFFEN WAS BORN IN SWITZERLAND, FEBRUARY 25, 1854, SHE GREW TO YOUNG WOMANHOOD IN HER NATIVE COUNTRY, COMING TO AMERICA IN 1874, LOCATING IN THE VICINITY OF ROANOKE, AND LATER COMING TO THIS VICINITY. IN 1878 SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO FREDERICK KOEHL, WHO PRECEDED HER IN DEATH 22 YEARS AGO.
SURVIVING MRS. KOEHL ARE THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN: FRED, HENRY AND CHRIS KOEHL AND MRS. HENRY SCHMIDGALL, OF HANCOCK, MINN.; JOHN, OF BUCKLEY; ANDREW, OF STRAWN, AND MARY AND WALTER, AT HOME. FIFTY-FOUR GRANDCHILDREN, THREE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN; ONE BROTHER, CHRIS STEFFEN, OF ROANOKE, AND THE FOLLOWING HALF-SISTERS ALSO SURVIVE: MRS. LYDIA STORTZ AND MISS ROSA STEFFEN, OF ROANOKE, AND MRS. LENA STOLLER, OF EL PASO.
MRS. KOEHL WAS A LOVER OF HER HOME AND HER DUTIES SO CHEERFULLY ASSUMED THERE AS A KIND AND DEVOTED MOTHER WILL BE MISSED BY THOSE NEAR TO HER.
THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON AT 1:30 O’CLOCK FROM THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH, AND INTERMENT WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

MRS. DAVID ROTH
MRS. DAVID ROTH, PASSED AWAY AT THE FAIRBURY HOSPITAL YESTERDAY MORNING ABOUT 2:30 O’CLOCK. SHE HAD UNDERGONE AN OPERATION LAST FRIDAY AND WAS APPARENTLY ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY. TUESDAY HER HEART BEGAN TO FAIL AND THE END CAME AS ABOVE NOTED.
NAOMI KOEHL WAS A DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. FRED KOEHL AND WAS BORN AT ROANOKE, MAY 16, 1879, HER AGE TO DEATH BEING 50 YEARS, 8 MONTHS AND 27 DAYS. WHEN SHE WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD HER PARENTS MOVED TO THE SCHERTZ FARM NEAR THIS CITY, WHERE THEY LIVED FOR 13 YEARS, WHEN THEY MOVED TO NEAR LAMAR, BARTON COUNTY, MO. SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO DAVID ROTH AT LAMAR, OCTOBER 2, 1902, AND IN 1910 THEY MOVED TO A FARM NEAR FAIRBURY AND HAVE RESIDED IN THIS LOCALITY SINCE THAT TIME. THE FAMILY NOW RESIDE ON THE LEWIS FARM, ONE-HALF MILE NORTH OF FAIRBURY.
MRS. ROTH WAS THE MOTHER OF SEVEN CHILDREN, THREE BOYS AND FOUR GIRLS - REUBEN ROTH, MRS. ARNOLD HILL, OF CHATSWORTH; MRS. RALPH HARRIS, OF PEORIA; MRS. ELI WALTERS, OF WING, AND ALVIN FREDRICK AND EDITH, AT HOME. THERE ARE TWO GRANDCHILDREN, STANLEY AND DAVID HILL. THESE, WITH THE BEREAVED HUSBAND AND MANY FRIENDS MOURN HER DEATH. SHE WAS AN EXCELLENT WOMAN, A KIND AND LOVING WIFE AND MOTHER AND A KIND FRIEND.
THE FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD FROM THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH NEXT MONDAY AT ONE O’CLOCK. THE PALLBEARERS WILL BE HER THREE SONS AND THREE SONS-IN-LAW. INTERMENT WILL BE AT GRACELAND.

HE WAS BORN IN ROANOKE IN 1882 AND RESIDED IN FAIRBURY ABOUT 20 YEARS. HE WAS MARRIED TO MARIE SOMERS AT HANCOCK, MINN., WHO SURVIVES WITH FOUR CHILDREN AND SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN.
ALSO SURVIVING ARE THREE BROTHERS, JOHN, ANDREW AND WALTER, OF FAIRBURY AND TWO SISTERS, MARY, OF FAIRBURY AND MRS. HENRY SCHMIDGALL, OF HANCOCK, MINN. HE WAS AN ELDER OF THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

HE IS THE BROTHER OF JOHN, ANDREW, WALTER, AND MARY KOEHL, ALL OF FAIRBURY.
HE WAS BORN MARCH 23, 1884, AT METAMORA, ILLINOIS, A SON OF FRED AND MARIE STEFFEN KOEHL AND WAS MARRIED TO ELIZABETH MESSNER OF LESTER, IOWA, ON FEBRUARY 13, 1909.
BEFORE MOVING TO PEORIA, HE HAD FARMED FOR MANY YEARS IN MINNESOTA. HE WAS A PEORIA RESIDENT FOR 25 YEARS.
HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND HAD BEEN A MINISTER FOR THE PAST 21 YEARS.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD 10 A. M. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27, AT THE FAIRBURY APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, WITH BURIAL IN GRACELAND CEMETERY, FAIRBURY. VISITATION WAS HELD THURSDAY AT DUFFY-PILS MEMORIAL HOME IN FAIRBURY AND ONE HOUR BEFORE THE SERVICES AT THE CHURCH.
MISS KOEHL WAS BORN JUNE 2, 1887, AT METAMORA, A DAUGHTER OF FRED AND MARY STEFFEN KOEHL.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY TWO BROTHERS, WALTER AND JOHN, BOTH OF FAIRBURY; A SISTER, MRS. EMMA SCHMIDTGALL, HANCOCK, MINN., AND SEVERAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

MR. KOEHL DIED AT 7:15 P.M. FRIDAY AT FAIRBURY HOSPITAL, WHERE HE HAD BEEN A PATIENT FOR FOUR WEEKS. HIS BODY WAS TAKEN TO THE COOK FUNERAL HOME.
HE WAS BORN AUGUST 11, 1888, AT FAIRBURY, A SON OF FREDERICK AND MARY STEFFEN KOEHL. HE WAS MARRIED TO MARTHA ZIMMERMAN FEBRUARY 16, 1916, AT PONTIAC. THEY FARMED NEAR STRAWN FOR 33 YEARS BEFORE RETIRING AND MOVING TO FAIRBURY IN 1948.

HIS FUNERAL WAS HELD AT 12:30 P.M. SUNDAY, MARCH 7, AT THE FAIRBURY APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, WITH MINISTERS OF THE CHURCH OFFICIATING. BURIAL WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY, FAIRBURY. DUFFY-PILS MEMORIAL HOME WAS IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.
HE WAS BORN JULY 30, 1893, SON OF FRED AND MARY STEFFEN KOEHL. MR. KOEHL WAS A WORLD WAR I VETERAN AND WORKED FOR LANGSTAFF CLINIC FOR MANY YEARS. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FAIRBURY APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND SERVED AS A MINISTER FOR MORE THAN 35 YEARS.
