THE FUNERAL SERVICES AND INTERMENT OF CONRAD FEHR WERE HELD AT THE APOSTOLIC CHURCH IN THIS TOWNSHIP MONDAY AFTERNOON.

FEBRUARY 16, 1905

THE DEATH OF CONRAD FEHR, A WELL-KNOWN RETIRED FARMER OF THIS CITY, OCCURRED ON THE 4TH INST. AFTER AN ILLNESS OF SEVERAL WEEKS. HE WAS 74 YEARS OF AGE AND SINCE COMING TO AMERICA HE HAD ACCUMULATED CONSIDERABLE PROPERTY. HE RESIDED ON HIS FARM, TWO MILES EAST OF HERE, WHEN HE PURCHASED PROPERTY AND MOVED TO EUREKA. HE LEAVES A WIDOW AND FOUR SONS: JULIUS AND THEOPOLUS, WHO RESIDE NEAR EUREKA, AND CONRAD AND JACOB, WHO LIVE NEAR FAIRBURY. THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE GERMAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH.

CONRAD FEHR WAS THE ROANOKE CHURCHES SECOND ELDER, REPLACING BENEDICT WEYENETH. HE WAS ORDAINED IN 1887 AND SERVED UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1902. AFTER HIS DEATH, THE ELDERSHIP WAS GIVEN TO MICHAEL MANGOLD.

MRS. REGULA FEHR

MRS. REGULA FEHR PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME IN EUREKA MARCH 4, IN THE 81ST YEAR OF HER AGE. SHE WAS BORN IN EGLISAU, CO. ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, SEPTEMBER 18, 1833, AND IN 1856 SHE WAS MARRIED TO CONRAD FEHR. THEY CAME TO AMERICA TO MAKE THEIR HOME APRIL 14, 1878, AND THEY HAVE BEEN WELL KNOWN AND HIGHLY ESTEEMED RESIDENTS OF THIS VICINITY FOR MANY YEARS. MR. FEHR DIED FEBRUARY 4, 1905. MRS. FEHR IS SURVIVED BY FOUR SONS, VIZ: CONRAD AND JULIUS, OF FAIRBURY; JACOB, OF MORTON, AND THEOPHILUS, OF EUREKA. THERE ARE THREE SISTERS, MRS. CATHERINE MARTIN AND MISS ANNA LANDERT, OF ROANOKE, AND MRS. FANNY MINGER, OF METAMORA. EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN AND TWO GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN ALSO SURVIVE.

THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT THEN APOSTOLIC CHURCH, NORTH OF EUREKA, AT 1:30 O’CLOCK, AND FRIENDS FROM MANY SURROUNDING TOWNS ATTENDED.

CONRAD FEHR PASSED AWAY LAST EVENING

CONRAD FEHR, FOR 31 YEARS A RESIDENT OF THIS CITY, PASSED AWAY AT HIS HOME ON EAST ELM STREET LAST EVENING AT 5:30 O’CLOCK. WHILE MR. FEHR HAS NOT BEEN IN THE BEST OF HEALTH FOR SOME TIME, IT WAS A FALL HE RECEIVED LAST SATURDAY ON A SLIPPERY WALK THAT RESULTED IN A BROKEN HIP, WHICH CAUSED HIS DEATH.

CONRAD, SON OF CONRAD AND REGULA FEHR, AND OLDEST OF A FAMILY OF EIGHT CHILDREN, WAS BORN IN TOESSRIEDERN, SWITZERLAND, FEBRUARY 9, 1857, BEING AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH 77 YEARS, 10 MONTHS AND 18 DAYS OF AGE.

WHEN A YOUNG MAN 21 YEARS OF AGE MR. FEHR CAME TO AMERICA AND WITH OTHERS OF THE FAMILY SETTLED AT EUREKA. ON JULY 4, 1884, IN FAIRBURY, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MISS KATHERINE STEIGER. FOLLOWING THEIR MARRIAGE THEY LIVED IN THE VICINITY OF EUREKA UNTIL 1890, WHEN THEY MOVED TO A FARM NEAR WING. IN 1903 MR. AND MRS. FEHR RETIRED FROM THE FARM AND MOVED TO THIS CITY, WHERE HE HAD SINCE RESIDED.

TWO CHILDREN WERE BORN TO MR. AND MRS. FEHR, ONE OF WHOM, MRS. LYDIA HUBER, TOGETHER WITH MRS. FEHR, SURVIVES. THERE ARE ALSO FIVE GRANDCHILDREN - KATHERINE, MELVIN, VELMA JEAN, VIRGINIA AND JOYCE HUBER - AND TWO BROTHERS, NAMELY, JULIUS, OF FAIRBURY, AND THEOPHILUS, OF EUREKA. ONE CHILD, SAMUEL, PASSED AWAY IN CHILDHOOD.

MR. FEHR WAS A MEMBER OF THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH. HE WAS A GOOD NEIGHBOR, A LOVING HUSBAND AND A KIND FATHER.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT ONE O’CLOCK FROM THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, AND INTERMENT WILL BE IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

JACOB FEHR 1862 - 1924

DEATH OF JACOB FEHR, SHOCK TO THE COMMUNITY

THE COMMUNITY WAS GREATLY SHOCKED ON SUNDAY MORNING TON HEAR OF THE SUDDEN DEATH OF JACOB FEHR, WHICH OCCURRED AT 3:15 SUNDAY MORNING AFTER A BRIEF ILLNESS OF ONE WEEK. HIS DEATH IS ATTRIBUTED TO HEART TROUBLE. FEW PEOPLE KNEW OF THE ILLNESS UNTIL DEATH HAD OVERTAKEN HIM.

MR. FEHR WAS BORN IN TOSSRIEDERN CT., ZURICH SWITZERLAND, JULY 26, 1862. AT THE AGE OF 16 HE CAME TO AMERICA AND TOOK TO FARMING. JUNE 26, 1887 AT WING, ILLINOIS, MR. FEHR WAS MARRIED TO CAROLINE KELLER. TO THIS UNION FIVE CHILDREN WERE BORN, TWO OF WHOM PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH. THEY WERE NAMELY, BENJAMIN AND CARL, OF ROANOKE, MRS. ANNA QUIGLEY, MORTON, WALTER AND ALVIN DECEASED.

ON AUGUST 28, 1899 HE WAS REMARRIED TO MISS DENA SCHOOR, THE MARRIAGE TAKING PLACE IN PEORIA. THREE CHILDREN BLESSED THIS UNION, MRS. OLIVE REIN, THEODORE AND EMILY, ALL OF THIS PLACE. THE FAMILY MOVED TO MORTON FROM A FARM NEAR DUNLAP IN 1911 AND SINCE THAT TIME THE DECEASED LIVED LARGELY A RETIRED LIFE. FROM TIME TO TIME HE WORKED AT THE MORTON CORPORATION AND FOR SOME TIME WAS ASSOCIATED WITH HIS SON-IN-LAW, CHRIS REIN IM THE PLUMBING BUSINESS.

THE DECEASED ONE LEAVES TO MOURN HIS SUDDEN DEPARTURE, HIS WIFE AND THE ABOVE NAMED CHILDREN, SIX GRANDCHILDREN AND THREE BROTHERS, CONRAD AND JULIUS, OD FAIRBURY AND THEO, OF EUREKA.

THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FROM THE APOSTOLIC CHURCH ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND INTERMENT WAS IN THE APOSTOLIC CEMETERY.

MR. FEHR WAS OF A KINDLY DISPOSITION AND A LOVER OF CHILDREN. HIS FRIENDLY KINDNESS ATTRACTED MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE LEARNED TO KNOW AND LOVE HIM AND HE IS HELD IN HIGH ESTEEM BY A LARGE ACQUAINTANCESHIP. HIS MANY FRIENDS WERE SHOCKED AND GRIEVED TO LEARN OF HIS SUDDEN DEMISE.

JULIUS FEHR 1866 - 1947

JULIUS FEHR

JULIUS FEHR, A WELL KNOWN RESIDENT OF THIS CITY, PASSED AWAY AT THE FAIRBURY HOSPITAL MONDAY AFTERNOON AT 12:30 O’CLOCK, FOLLOWING A SEVERAL DAYS ILLNESS WITH HEART TROUBLE. HE WAS AGED 81 YEARS, ONE MONTH AND 29 DAYS.

MR. FEHR WAS A NATIVE OF SWITZERLAND, BEING BORN THERE JANUARY 11, 1866, A SON OF CONRAD AND REGULA LAUNDERT FEHR. HE RECEIVED HIS EDUCATION IN THE SCHOOLS OF HIS NATIVE COUNTRY, AND WHEN 20 YEARS OF AGE CAME TO THIS COUNTRY.

COMING TO ILLINOIS HE LOCATED AT EUREKA, WHERE HE ENGAGED IN FARMING. IT WAS WHILE A RESIDENT OF EUREKA THAT HE WAS MARRIED TO MISS MARY GANTER, THEIR MARRIAGE TAKING PLACE IN PEORIA ON MARCH 20, 1895. MRS. FEHR WAS ALSO BORN IN SWITZERLAND. THEY CAME TO FAIRBURY ON DECEMBER 24, 1908. MR. FEHR WAS A GARDENER AND NURSERY SALESMAN.

ONE CHILD, MARTHA, WAS BORN TO MR. AND MRS. FEHR, PASSING AWAY IN INFANCY. MRS. FEHR DIED JULY 5, 1943. SURVIVING ARE SEVEN NEPHEWS AND NIECES. MISSES KATHRYN, VELMA JEAN, VIRGINIA AND JOYCE HUBER, CHILDREN OF MR. FEHR’S NIECE, KEPT HOUSE FOR HIM DURING THE PAST FOUR YEARS.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT 1:30 O’CLOCK FROM THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH. INTERMENT WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

THE PALLBEARERS WERE EDWARD ZIMMERMAN, SIDNEY LEMAN, CHRIS LEMAN, ORRIE STOLLER, JOHN SUTTER AND ELIAS LEMAN.

THEOPHILUS FEHR 1870 - 1945

THEOPHILUS FEHR DIES AT PEORIA

THEOPHILUS FEHR, OF ERUEKA, A BROTHER OF JULIUS FEHR, AND AN UNCLE OF MRS. EDWARD HUBER, OF FAIRBURY, PASSED AWAY AT ST. FRANCIS HOSPITAL, PEORIA, WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT TWO O’CLOCK HAVING BEEN A PATIENT THERE FOR THE PAST YEAR. HE WAS AGED 74 YEARS AND THREE MONTHS.

MR. FEHR WAS BORN ON OCTOBER 17, 1870, AT ST. GALL, SWITZERLAND, A SON OF CONRAD AND REGULA FEHR. HE CAME TO AMERICA IN 1878 AND SPENT HIS LIFE HERE ON A FARM TWO MILES EAST OF EUREKA.

SURVIVING BESIDES THE BROTHER, JULIUS FEHR, FAIRBURY, ARE SEVERAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS. HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS AND BY TWO BROTHERS, CONRAD AND JACOB.

 

 

 

2. SOLOMON FEHR 1821 - 1903

SOLOMON FEHR

THE FUNERAL OF SOLOMON FEHR, WHO DIED IN THIS CITY LAST FRIDAY EVENING, WAS HELD FROM THE GERMAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH, SUNDAY AT 2 O’CLOCK P. M. REV. WAGLER AND GERBER CONDUCTED THE SERVICES. THE DECEASED WAS 82 YEARS OF AGE. ASIDE FROM HIS WIFE SIX CHILDREN SURVIVE HIM. HE HAD BEEN IN POOR HEALTH FOR SOME TIME PRIOR TO HIS DEATH. A LARGE NUMBER OF RELATIVES AND FRIENDS FROM A DISTANCE WERE IN ATTENDANCE AT THE FUNERAL.

MRS. REGULA FEHR

REGULA HINNEN WAS BORN IN CANTON, ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, MAY 12, 1827, AND DIED AT HER HOME IN FAIRBURY THURSDAY, JAN. 16, 1908, AGED 80 YEARS, 8 MONTHS AND 4 DAYS. SHE HAD BEEN IN FEEBLE HEALTH FOR SOME TIME AND HER DEATH WAS NOT UNEXPECTED.

SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO SOLOMON FEHR IN 1849, IN SWITZERLAND. NINE CHILDREN WERE BORN TO THEM , THREE SONS AND SIX DAUGHTERS, OF WHOM SIX ARE LIVING - TWO SONS, SOLOMON FEHR, LORETTO, MICH.; JOHN, OF FAIRBURY; REGULA UNSICKER, WIFE OF JOHN UNSICKER; MARY MEISS, WIFE OF CHRIST MEISS; BERTHA STEIDINGER, WIFE OF GOTTLIEB; JULIA FEHR, ALL OF THIS CITY. HER HUSBAND PRECEDED HER IN JAN. 30, 1903.

MR. AND MRS. FEHR CAME TO THIS COUNTRY IN 1878, GOING TO EUREKA, WOODFORD COUNTY, FIRST, WHERE THEY RESIDED UNTIL MARCH 12, 1882, WHEN THEY MOVED TO FAIRBURY, WHERE SHE HAS LIVED SINCE. SHE WAS A MOTHER AND WIFE IN ALL THAT THE NAME IMPLIES AND DURING HER LONG RESIDENCE HERE SHE MADE HOSTS OF FRIENDS WHO WILL MOURN WITH THE BEREAVED FAMILY THEIR LOSS. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE GERMAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH AND A SINCERE CHRISTIAN. THE FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT THE CHURCH IN THIS CITY SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND THE REMAINS LAID TO REST IN THE FAIRBURY CEMETERY.

MRS. JOHN UNSICKER

REGULA FEHR WAS BORN AT EGLISAU, SWITZERLAND, DECEMBER 25, 1850, AND PASSED AWAY AT THE HOME IN THIS CITY LAST THURSDAY, JANUARY 4, 1923, AT THE AGE OF 72 YEARS AND 9 DAYS.

SHE GREW TO YOUNG WOMAN HOOD IN HER NATIVE COUNTRY AND IN 1878 CAME WITH HER PARENTS TO THIS COUNTRY, SETTLING IN WOODFORD COUNTY, ILLINOIS. IN 1882 SHE CAME TO FAIRBURY AND HAD SINCE RESIDED HERE, TEN YEARS OF THAT TIME BEING SPENT ON A FARM SOUTH OF THIS CITY. IN 1892 SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO JOHN UNSICKER WHO TOGETHER WITH ONE DAUGHTER, MARY, AND THE FOLLOWING BROTHERS AND SISTERS SURVIVE: MRS. CHRIS MEISS, MRS. GOTTLIEB STIEDINGER, JULIA FEHR, JOHN FEHR, ALL OF FAIRBURY.

THE DECEASED WAS AN EXCELLENT WIFE AND MOTHER AND WAS HELD IN HIGH ESTEEM BY ALL WHO KNEW HER.

THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FROM THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH IN THIS CITY SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND INTERMENT WAS IN GRACELAND.

MARY (FEHR) MEISS 1865 - 1933

MRS. CHRIS MEISS

MRS. CHRIS MEISS, WELL KNOWN AND HIGHLY ESTEEMED OF THIS COMMUNITY FOR THE PAST 50 YEARS, PASSED AWAY LAST SUNDAY MORNING AT THE FAIRBURY HOSPITAL FOLLOWING AN OPERATION.

MARY FEHR, DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. SOLOMON FEHR, WAS BORN JUNE 25, 1865, AT EGLISAU, SWITZERLAND. SHE WAS 13 YEARS OF AGE WHEN THE FAMILY CAME TO AMERICA, SETTLING AT EUREKA, WHERE SHE LIVED FOR FOUR YEARS, AND THEN MOVED TO THIS COMMUNITY, WHERE SHE HAD RESIDED EVER SINCE.

SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO CHRIS MEISS, DECEMBER 2, 1903, AND THEIR FARM ON WHICH THEY HAVE RESIDED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, IS LOCATED SOUTHWEST OF THIS CITY. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND AND THREE CHILDREN, ELI AND DANIEL, AT HOME, AND MRS. LAVINA KILGUS; ALSO ONE GRANDCHILD, MARGUERITE MARY KILGUS, SHE ALSO LEAVES TWO SISTERS, MRS. GOTTLIEB STEIDINGER AND MISS JULIA FEHR, AND ONE BROTHER, JOHN FEHR. ONE BROTHER, SOLOMON FEHR, AND TWO SISTERS, MRS. REGULA UNSICKER AND MRS. ELIZABETH KOEHL, PRECEDED HER IN DEATH.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT 1:30 AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, SAMUEL SCHUMACHER BEING THE OFFICIATING MINISTER, ASSISTED BY LEO GRUSY, OF EUREKA. BURIAL WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

BERTHA (FEHR) STEIDINGER 1866 - 1958

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD MONDAY FOR MRS. BERTHA STEIDINGER, 91, WHO DIED AT

4 P. M. FRIDAY AT HER HOME. A STROKE FIVE DAYS AGO WAS PRECEDED BY SEVERAL YEARS OF FAILING HEALTH.

SERVICES WERE HELD AT 1:20 P. M. AT THE COOK FUNERAL HOME AND AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, WITH BURIAL IN GRACELAND. THE REV. JOSHUA BROQUARD CONDUCTED THE SERVICES.

MRS. STEIDINGER WAS BORN DEC. 9, 1866, AT EGLESAU. SWITZERLAND, A DAUGHTER OF SOLOMON AND REGULA HINNEN FEHR. SHE CAME TO WOODFORD COUNTY AT 11 AND TO FAIRBURY A FEW YEARS LATER. SHE WAS MARRIED TO GOTTLIEB STEIDINGER MARCH 4, 1894. HE OPERATED A BLACKSMITH SHOP HERE.

SURVIVING ARE A SON, ERWIN, COLUMBIA, S. C.; FOUR DAUGHTERS, MRS. ALBERT FLUCKIGER, ROCKVILLE, CONN.; MRS. ELI MOSER, FAIRBURY; MISS LEONA, AT HOME; MRS. MAURICE MENDENHALL, DENTON, TEX.; A SISTER, MISS JULIA FEHR, FAIRBURY; FIVE GRANDCHILDREN AND FOUR GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

PRECEDING HER IN DEATH WERE THREE SISTERS, REGULA, ELIZABETH AND MARY; TWO BROTHERS SOLOMON AND JOHN. AND TWO SONS, AMOS AND REUBEN. HER HUSBAND, DIED IN 1933.

RELATIVES ATTENDED THE FUNERAL FROM BREMEN AND RAUB, IND., ROANOKE, EUREKA, MORTON AND DWIGHT.

JOHN FEHR 1868 - 1942

JOHN FEHR

JOHN FEHR, SON OF MR. AND MRS. SOLOMON FEHR, WAS BORN IN BERN , SWITZERLAND, JUNE 24, 1868. WHEN NINE YEARS OF AGE HE CAME WITH HIS PARENTS TO AMERICA. THEY SETTLED IN THIS VICINITY AND HE HAD SINCE RESIDED HERE. MANY OF THESE YEARS WERE SPENT ON THE HOME PLACE JUST NORTHWEST OF FAIRBURY. HE MOVED HIS LATE RESIDENCE ON WEST CHESTNUT A LITTLE OVER A YEAR.

MR. FEHR WAS TWICE MARRIED, HIS FIRST MARRIAGE BEING TO CAROLINE UNSICKER IN 1897, AND TO THEM WERE BORN TWO CHILDREN, CAROLINE AND JOHN, JR., BOTH OF FAIRBURY. MRS. FEHR PASSED AWAY IN 1901, AND ON DECEMBER 10, 1903, HE WAS MARRIED TO MADALINE WIEDRICH, WHO SURVIVES TOGETHER WITH THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN BORN TO THEM: REUBEN, OF FAIRBURY; JOSEPH, OF PEORIA; MISS OLIVE, OF FAIRBURY; AMOS, OF PEORIA; EDWIN, HERBERT, MISS LAVINA AND MRS. ANDREW MEISTER, ALL OF FAIRBURY. ALSO SURVIVING ARE EIGHTEEN GRANDCHILDREN AND TWO SISTERS, MRS. GOTTLIEB STEIDINGER AND MISS JULIA FEHR. TWO SONS BY HIS SECOND MARRIAGE PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT 1:30 O’CLOCK AND INTERMENT WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

JULIA FEHR 1871 - 1959

JULIA FEHR, 88, DIES THURSDAY

SERVICES WERE HELD AT 12:30 P. M. SATURDAY AT THE COOK FUNERAL HOME AND AT 1 P. M. AT THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH FOR MISS JULIA FEHR, 88, WHO DIED AT 3:50 A. M. THURSDAY AT HER HOME. SHE HAD SUFFERED A STROKE 10 DAYS PREVIOUSLY.

BURIAL WAS IN EAST GRACELAND CEMETERY.

MISS FEHR WAS BORN JUNE 17, 1871, A DAUGHTER OF SOLOMON AND REGULA HINNEN FEHR, IN EGLSAU, SWITZERLAND. SHE CAME TO THE UNITED STATES WITH HER PARENTS AT THE AGE OF 5, AND SETTLES AT EUREKA, BEFORE THE FAMILY MOVED TO FAIRBURY.

SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY THREE SISTERS AND TWO BROTHERS. SURVIVING ARE MANY NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

MISS FEHR MADE HER HOME WITH A NIECE, MISS MARY UNSICKER.
