MRS. MAGDALENA BECKLEY
MAGDALENA RUTTIMAN WAS BORN SWITZERLAND, IN 1841, AND DIED IN THIS CITY AT THE HOME OF HER SON, JOHN, MONDAY EVENING, MARCH 8, 1915, AGED 73 YEARS, 2 MONTHS AND 12 DAYS.
THE EARLY PART OF HER LIFE WAS SPENT IN SWITZERLAND. SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO HENRY BECKLEY, IN 1868, AND TO THIS UNION SEVEN CHILDREN WERE BORN, ALL BEING RAISED IN SWITZERLAND. IN 1884 THE FAMILY CAME TO THE UNITED STATES, REACHING FAIRBURY ON MAY 22, OF THAT YEAR, COMING DIRECTLY TO THIS PLACE. SEVEN YEARS LATER, IN 1891, THE FATHER, HENRY BECKLEY, DIED. IN 1900 MRS. BECKLEY WENT TO WOLCOTT, IND., WHERE SHE LIVED WITH HER CHILDREN, JOHN, WILL, EMMA AND LIZZIE, UNTIL 1907, WHEN SHE RETURNED TO FAIRBURY. UNTIL A YEAR AGE SHE MADE HER HOME WITH HER DAUGHTER, EMMA, BUT SINCE THAT TIME SHE HAS LIVED WITH HER SON, JOHN. ALL OF THE SEVEN CHILDREN SURVIVE HER. THEY ARE: HENRY AND CONRAD, REMINGTON, IND.; LIZZIE, ROCKVILLE, CONN.; JAKE AND WILL. LAS VEGAS, NEV., AND JOHN AND EMMA, OF THIS CITY.
MRS. BECKLEY WAS WELL KNOWN AMONG THE GERMAN PEOPLE OF THIS VICINITY AND ALSO IN WOLCOTT, IND., WHERE SHE HAD RESIDED FOR SEVERAL YEARS. SHE HAD BEEN A FAITHFUL MEMBER OF THE GERMAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH FOR 32 YEARS. SHE WAS A FAITHFUL AND LOVING MOTHER AND WILL BE MISSED BY A HOST OF FRIENDS.
THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FROM THE GERMAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH IN THIS CITY THURSDAY AFTERNOON AT 1 O’CLOCK, AND WERE LAID TO REST IN THE FAIRBURY CEMETERY.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FRINDAY MORNING AT THE GERMAN CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH, FAIRBURY, FOR HENRY BECKLEY, 94, WHO DIED WEDNESDAY AT 11:30 A. M. IN PEORIA.
HE HAD BEEN IN FAILING HEALTH FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
BURIAL WAS IN EAST GRACELAND CEMETERY, FAIRBURY.
HE HAD BEEN LIVING WITH HIS DAUGHTERS, MRS. PHIL GUDEMAN, FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS. PREVIOUSLY HE HAD MADE HIS HOME WITH ANOTHER DAUGHTER, MRS. LOUIS BITTNER, FAIRBURY.
HE WAS BORN JULY 27, 1869, AT GUNDELINGEN, SWITZERLAND, THE SON OF HENRY AND MAGDALENA RUETIMAN BOECKLI BECKLEY. HE MARRIED NANCY FARNEY. SHE DIED IN 1896. HE THEN MARRIED FRIEDERICKA PETERS AT PEORIA SEPT. 2, 1899. SHE DIED IN 1954.
SURVIVING ARE A SON, FRED BECKLEY, OF INDIANA; SIX DAUGHTERS, MRS. FREIDA BITTNER, FAIRBURY; MRS. LEAH RIEBER, MRS. EUNICE GUDEMAN, MRS. LAVINA MEISTER, ALL OF PEORIA; MRS. IDA YOUNG, CISSNA PARK; MRS. CORA NEVITT, CHILLICOTHE; A BROTHER, WILL BECKLEY, LAS VEGAS, NEV.
HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY ONE SON, HENRY III; ONE DAUGHTER, ALICE; THREE BROTHERS, JAKE, JOHN AND CONRAD; AND ONE SISTER, EMMA.
STIVER HOME FOR FUNERALS WAS IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.

JOHN BECKLEY, RETIRED BUSINESS MAN, DIED SUNDAY
HAD CONDUCTED DRY GOODS AND MEN’S CLOTHING STORE HERE UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO.
JOHN BECKLEY, WHO FOR MANY YEARS WAS CONNECTED WITH THE BUSINESS INTERESTS OF FAIRBURY PASSED AWAY ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT ONE O’CLOCK AT THE AGE OF 77 YEARS AND 21 DAYS.
MR. BECKLEY WAS BORN IN ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, JULY 19, 1870, A SON OF JOHN AND MAGDALENA RUTIMANN BECKLEY. WHEN A LAD OF 14 YEARS HE CAME TO THIS COUNTRY WITH HIS PARENTS AND SETTLED IN FAIRBURY.
MR. BECKLEY WAS EMPLOYED HER AS CLERK IN LOCAL MERCANTILE ESTABLISHMENTS FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. IN 1903 HE OPENED A DRY GOODS STORE IN WOLCOTT, IND., WHICH HE CONDUCTED FOR SEVERAL YEARS. HE DISPOSED OF THIS STORE AND CAME TO FAIRBURY, WHERE HE OWNED AND OPERATED A DRY GOODS AND CLOTHING STORE UNTIL JANUARY 12, 1940, WHEN HE DISPOSED OF THE SAME AND RETIRED.
MR. BECKLEY WAS TWICE MARRIED. ON JUNE 9, 1903, HE WAS MARRIED TO MISS LYDIA STOLLER, OF FAIRBURY. SHE PASSED AWAY JANUARY 12, 1914. ON JANUARY 29, 1917, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MISS FREDERICKA ARMBRUSTER, WHO PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH FEBRUARY 9TH, 1934.

CHARLES HAWLEY, OF CHANUTE FIELD. ALSO SURVIVING ARE TWO GRANDCHILDREN AND THREE BROTHERS AND A SISTER - HENRY, OF PEORIA; WILL, OF LAS VEGAS, NEV., CONRAD, OF REMINGTON, IND., AND MRS. HENRY KLOTER, ROCKVILLE, CONN.
FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH WEDNESDAY MORNING AT TEN O’CLOCK. INTERMENT WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

AMONG THOSE ATTRENDING THE FUNERAL TODAY ARE THE BECKLEY BROTHERS, CARRIE HUBER AND THE EDMOND KLOTERS. IN THE GROUP GOING WITH MRS. JACOB SOHN WERE HER DAUGHTERS, HELEN AND LOUISE, MR. AND MRS. HE WAS BORN ON SEPT. 29, 1877, AT GUNTALINGEN, CANTON ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, AND CAME TO THE UNITED STATES IN 1881, WITH HIS PARENTS AND SIBLINGS.
HE ATTENDED THE EDISON SCHOOL IN FAIRBURY AND WORKED IN THIS LOCALITY AND AT WOLCOTT, INDIANA, BEFORE GOING TO LAS VEGAS ABOUT 1905, A YEAR AFTER HIS BROTHER JAKE AND ED VON TOBEL OF FAIRBURY LOCATED THERE, WHEN IT WAS LITTLE MORE THAN CAMP SITE.
IN ABOUT 1907, HE MARRIED LEVA GRIMES AT WOLCOTT, INDIANA.
HE LOCATED A MENS’ WEAR STORE IN LAS VEGAS UNTIL RETIRING SEVERAL YEARS AGO. HE PRECEDED IN DEATH BY FOUR BROTHERS AND A SISTER.
SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, A SON, A DAUGHTER, SEVERAL GRANDCHILDREN, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS, AND ONE SISTER, MRS. LIZZIE KLOTER OF ROCKVILLE CONNECTICUT.
HR WAS AN UNCLE OF DAVE, WARREN AND BOB BECKLEY AND EDMUND KLOTER, ALL OF OF FAIRBURY.
JACOB "JAKE" BECKLEY ???? - 1940

JAKE BECKLEY, ALONG WITH HIS BOYHOOD FRIEND ED VON TOBEL, DECIDED TO "GO WEST". THEY TOOK JOBS IN 1904 IN LOS ANGELES, JAKE AS A BARBER AND ED AT A LUMBERYARD. IN 1905 THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE SPECIAL OFFERING OF THE RAILROAD TO RIDE THE FIRST TRAIN FROM LOS ANGELES TO LAS VEGAS TO ATTEND THE LAS VEGAS TOWNSITE SALE. THEY BOUGHT SOME LOTS AND THEREAFTER STARTED THEIR OWN BUSINESS. JAKE FIRST WORKED WITH VON TOBEL STARTING A LUMBER YARD, BUT IN TIME, WHEN HIS BROTHER WILLIAM BECKLEY, CAME TO LAS VEGAS THE TWO STARTED A CLOTHING STORE.

EDMUND KLOTER AND WIFE LEFT MONDAY AFTERNOON TO ATTENDED THE SERVICES. A NEPHEW, WARREN BECKLEY, LEFT BY PLACE FROM CHICAGO TUESDAY NIGHT AND REUBEN HUBER AND CHRIS LEMAN LEFT FOR ROCKVILLE WEDNESDAY MORNING. MRS. KLOTER A NATIVE OF FAIRBURY, WAS THE FORMER ELIZABETH BECKLEY.

DEATH CAME QUIETLY TO SIS. ELIZABETH (LIZZIE) KLOTER AT HER HOME, ON SEPT. 19. SHE WAS 87. LEFT TO MOURN HER PASSING ARE THREE SONS, BRO. EMANUEL AND WILBUR OF ROCKVILLE AND EDMUND OF FAIRBURY; THREE DAUGHTERS SISTERS MADELENE ZAHNER, HELEN HEINTZ AND LAVINA ALL AT ROCKVILLE, AND 16 GRANDCHILDREN. FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FROM THE CHURCH AND CONDUCTED BY BRO. JOHN BAHLER. PRAYER AT THE GRAVESIDE, IN THE ELLINGTON CEMETERY WAS OFFERED BY BRO. LEROY HUBER OF EUREKA, WHO HAD COME TO ATTEND THE FUNERAL.
EMMA (BECKLEY) METZ / SCHARLACH 1871 - 1922

MRS. SAM SCHARLACH , OF REMINGTON, IND., DIED AT THE FAIRBURY HOSPITAL ON MONDAY AFTERNOON FOLLOWING AN OPERATION FOR GALLSTONES THAT MORNING.
THE DECEASED WAS BORN IN ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, IN AUGUST, 1871, AND CAME TO THIS CITY AT THE AGE OF 12. ALL HER LIFE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE PAST TWO YEARS, HAD BEEN SPENT HERE.
SHE WAS TWICE MARRIED, FIRST TO FRED METZ, WHO DIED IN 1919, AND TO 1920 TO SAMUEL SCHARLACH, WHO SURVIVES HER. SHE IS SURVIVES BY FIVE BROTHERS, HENRY AND CONRAD BECKLEY, OF REMINGTON, IND.; WILLIAM, OF LAS VEGAS, N. V.; JACOB, OF BLITHE, CALIF., AND JOHN, OF THIS CITY; AND BY ONE SISTER, MRS. LIZZIE KLOTER, OF CONNECTICUT.
DECEASED CAME TO THE HOSPITAL THREE WEEKS AGO TO TAKE TREATMENT PRELIMINARY TO THE OPERATION.
